Our Legacy: A History of Faith and Excellence
St. Philip the Apostle Catholic School
Founded with a vision of academic excellence rooted in faith, construction of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic School began in 1954 and was completed on September 5, 1955. The school was staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Spirit, and formally dedicated by His Excellency Bishop Thomas K. Gorman on September 18, 1955.
In 1987, the campus expanded with a new east wing featuring a cafeteria, gymnasium, library, computer lab, science lab, and additional classrooms—enhancing both academic and extracurricular opportunities. The school proudly celebrated 50 years of service to the Pleasant Grove community in 2005.
St. Augustine Catholic School
Just a few years later, St. Augustine Catholic School opened its doors in 1957 with three primary classrooms, also staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Spirit. The building was officially dedicated in 1958, and by 1985, the campus had grown to include a cafeteria, gym, and a Middle School building. St. Augustine marked its 50th anniversary in 2007, honoring decades of commitment to Catholic education.
A United Future: St. Philip & St. Augustine Catholic Academy
On October 17, 2014, Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell announced the unification of both schools into a single academy-model institution: St. Philip & St. Augustine Catholic Academy. This new chapter began in the 2015–2016 school year, welcoming students to a newly renovated and expanded campus at 8151 Military Parkway.
In Spring 2018, the Academy completed its second phase of construction, adding five new classrooms and a teacher’s lounge to accommodate growing enrollment. Notably, three of these classrooms double as storm shelters, ensuring safety and resilience for our students.
With expanded facilities and a thriving community, St. Philip & St. Augustine Catholic Academy continues to build on a legacy of faith, learning, and service—confident that our best days are still ahead.
